I first became interested in working with crystals and stones after learning about the study of Chakras. The word "Chakra" is taken from Hindi and means "wheel of energy".
They are an ancient model for awakening and balancing your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energies. Each chakra has certain characteristics which influence different aspects of our personalities.
The body consists of 7 chakras which are positioned from the tailbone to the crown of the head. Each of the chakras are associated with a location on the body, a color/ assortment of crystals/gems/stones, and a primary need or drive. A brief description of the bodies chakras are listed below:
#1 Base (Root) Chakra - Location: base of the tailbone. Color: Red. Crystals/Stones: (Black & Red Stones) Ruby, Garnet, Red Jasper, Hematite, Black Onyx. The primary drive is The Urge for Survival.
#2 Sacral Chakra - Location: the pelvic area. Color: Orange. Crystals/Stones: (Red & Orange Stones) Amber, Carnelian, Orange Agate. The primary drive is The Pursuit of Pleasure.
#3 Solar Plexus Chakra - Location: upper abdomen; above the navel, below the chest. Color: Yellow. Crystals/Stones: (Yellow and Yellow/Green Stones) Citrine, Tiger's Eye, Topaz, Peridot. The primary drive is The Drive for Power.
#4 Heart Chakra - Location: center of the chest; the heart. Color: Green & Pink. Crystals/Stones: (Green and Pink Stones) Jade, Emerald, Coral, Rose Quartz. The primary drive is The Quest for Love.
#5 Throat Chakra - Location: base of the throat. Color: Sky/Ice Blue. Crystals/Stones: (Blue, Blue-Green and Blue-Purple Stones) Turquoise,Lapis Lazuli, Aquamarine, Blue Topaz. The primary drive is for The Voice of Creative Expression.
#6 Brow Chakra - Location: center of forehead, between the eyes. Color: Indigo. Crystals/Stones: (Clear, White, Purple, some Yellow Stones) Sapphire, Amethyst, Moonstone, Fluorite. The primary drive is The Drive for Transcendence.
#7 Crown Chakra - Location: crown of the head. Color: Purple. Crystals/Stones: (Purple and White Stones) Amethyst, Diamond, Violet Fluorite, Clear Quartz. The primary drive is The Surrender to Spirituality.
